Merope (1)

Alternative parentage: Atlas (1) and Hesperis; Atlas (1) and Aethra (1); Erechtheus; Cadmus; Queen of the Amazons

Biographical

Along with Electra (2), Celaeno (1), Maia, Sterope (1), Alcyone (2), and Taygete, Merope was a daughter of Atlas, one of the Pleiades, and the wife of Sisyphus of Corinth, by whom she became the mother of Glaucus. In the constellation of the Pleiades she is the seventh and the least visible star, because she is ashamed of having had intercourse with a mortal man.
