Biographical

Along with Merope (1), Electra (2), Celaeno (1), Maia, Sterope (1), and Taygete, Alcyone was one of the Pleiades, and was transformed into the Pleiades constellation with her sisters. By Poseidon, she begot Aethusa, Hyrieus and Hyperenor. To these children Pausanias adds two others: Hyperes and Anthas.
