| An unfoldable, cartoon‑strip‑like painting depicting a continuous sequence of episodes from the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, arranged in a grid of eighteen small scenes presented in chronological order across three rows of six scenes each. It is also known as the Roermond Passion, as it is believed to have been painted in that city. The scenes are: Top row – Annunciation to Mary, the Nativity, the Circumcision, the Adoration of the Magi, the Presentation in the Temple, and the Entry into Jerusalem; middle row – the Last Supper, the Prayer in Gethsemane, the Betrayal of Judas, Christ before Pilate, the Crowning with Thorns, and the Flagellation; bottom row – Carrying the Cross, Christ on the Cross, the Lamentation, the Resurrection, the Ascension of Christ, and Pentecost. |
