| The Byzantine Empire was devastated after the Fourth Crusade, with Constantinople falling to the Crusaders in 1204. In the aftermath, the Latin Empire was established, while the Byzantine resistance continued through the Empire of Nicaea and other Greek states. The Crusader states, such as the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Principality of Antioch, formed in the Levant, with the Seljuk Empire growing in Asia Minor. |
