A bust of the president of
Mexico in formal attire located in Mexico City. Juarez is celebrated
for his indigenous Zapotec heritage, reformist policies, and
resistance to French occupation during the Second Mexican Empire. He
promoted liberal reforms through the Leyes de Reforma, which aimed
to reduce the influence of the Catholic Church and military in
public affairs. Benito Juárez Day is observed in Mexico on the third
Monday of March each year, commemorating his birthday on 21 March
1806.
