A half-length portrait of the poet Dante Alighieri, wearing a laurel wreath on his head, dedicated to Giovanni Francesco Malaspina. Below the portrait is his coat of arms, surrounded by text that reads:
 

'The divine poet Alighieri, Florentine. Born in 1261; died in 1321 in Ravenna. To the singular merit of the Most Illustrious and Reverend Lord Giovanni Francesco Malaspina, Marquis of Mulazzo, Abbot of the Imperial Abbey of St. Caprasio of Aulla. Taken from an ancient painting hanging at the home of Signor Battista Dei, Antiquarian of His Imperial Majesty.'
