Watermelons, peaches and other fruit in a landscape Oil on canvas, 98 x 133.5 cm, by Giovanni Stanchi (1608–c. 1673) Location unknown |

| This work creates such a convincing illusion that some of the fruit appears ready to roll out of the canvas. The fruit is carefully turned to display every curve and demonstrate Stanchi's skill in depicting it from multiple perspectives, while the melons are split open to show their glistening interiors, and smaller fruits and vegetables shine under shifting patterns of light. |
