Lizzie Lawson (1867–1905?)

Elizabeth Lawson, a designer of children's illustrations, was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, to John Lawson, an accomplished illustrator, painter, and sculptor. By 1881, she was working as an artist in Chelsea, collaborating with her father on popular children's books and annuals. In 1886, she married Robert Ellice Mack, a writer and editor, who worked alongside her and her father on several publications. By the late 1800s, they relocated to Scotland when Mack took up a position in Edinburgh with the Scottish publisher Nelson’s. Lawson was a prolific illustrator, contributing to more than forty books, often portraying children in various settings with an air of innocence and carefree charm. In her later years, she faced financial difficulties, and while the exact date of her death is unknown, some reports suggest she was living in Bath in 1916.
