Asian Forest Scorpion
Coloured engraving, by Carl Wilhelm Hahn (1786–1835)

No longer classified as Buthus longimanus but as Heterometrus longimanus, the Asian forest scorpion is, in fact, of dark hue, usually black. It is one of the largest scorpions in the world, typically reaching a length of between 10 cm and 15 cm. Despite its intimidating size and painful sting, its venom is generally not dangerous to healthy humans. It is native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and is nocturnal in its hunting habits. It primarily dwells in humid forests, preying on insects and small vertebrates.
