Carl Wilhelm Hahn (1786–1835)

Hahn was a German zoologist, entomologist, and skilled taxidermist, born in Weingartsgreuth to the son of a court gardener. He began military service in 1808 before enrolling at the University of Erlangen, where he completed his doctorate in 1819. That same year, he moved to Nuremberg, seeking better publishing prospects, then to Munich in 1821 to work on a book about exotic birds for the King of Bavaria. The project ultimately failed, and he returned to Nuremberg in 1825. Though his later years are less documented, he continued his work as a natural scientist and collaborated with figures like Jacob Sturm, Johann Georg Wagler, Carl Ludwig Koch, and Wilhelm Herrich-Schäffer. Hahn's talent for drawing and engraving appeared throughout his various publications. He died in Nuremberg.
