During a restoration
project of Salamanca's New Cathedral in 1992, one of the stonemasons,
Miguel Romero, added his astronaut carving to the façade over the
northern entrance. The temporary artistic exhibition of 'The Ages
of Man' was being held in Salamanca at this time, and the astronaut
was a fitting homage to the modern era. In 2010, the astronaut was
targeted by vandals, causing significant damage. It was later restored. |
