Monument to Álvaro Obregón: Rear Side Granite (sculpture), by Ignacio Asúnsolo, 1935 Parque de la Bombilla, San Ángel, Mexico City |
||||||||||
| This relief is titled 'The Northern Region' (La Región Norte) and represents Sonora, Obregón's home state. In the description accompanying the winning entry in the 1934 design competition for the monument, Sonora is described as 'the region from which the eagle takes flight', identifying it as the land from which Obregón rose to national prominence. The relief symbolises Obregón's indomitable spirit ascending to higher regions in pursuit of social justice and includes typical cacti representing the characteristic vegetation of Sonora. |
