| Eridanus
Biographical Eridanus was a river god, the son of Oceanus and Tethys, and the father of Zeuxippe. Known as the 'king of rivers,' it was said that amber could be found along its banks. Although Homer does not mention Eridanus, Hesiod is the first to do so. Herodotus described the name as foreign and believed it to be a poetic invention. Over time, the location and significance of the river Eridanus varied according to different poets. He has been identified with the rivers Po and Rhine. Son of Oceanus and Tethys, he was the father of Zeuxippe (4). |
