They were dameons from Mount Ida, of Phrygian, or were of Cretan origin.[H45]
They were born out of the earth (Gaea) when Rhea dug her fingers into the ground as she gave birth to Zeus.[109]
They were sometimes confounded or identified with the Curetes, the Cabeiri, the Corybantes and the Telchines.[15]
