After her husband-uncle Sichaeus/Acerbas/Sicharbas was killed by her brother
Pygmalion, she fled to the coast of Africa where she purchased land on which
she founded Carthage.[15]
King Hiarbas demanded her hand in marriage, but she killed herself on a
funeral pyre.[15]
She was worshipped in Carthage as a divinity.[15]
According to Virgil, she fell in love with Aeneas after his arrival in
Africa, but he abandoned her and she killed herself on a funeral pyre.[15] |
