St Mary of Clopas

Other names: Mary of Cleophas

Biographical

One of the 'Three Maries' who witnessed Jesus' crucifixion, and was present at his entombment, and his resurrection. She was one of the women who took the news to his disciples. It is generally accepted that she is the wife of Clopas, and the mother of James the Less, and of Joses. She is called the 'sister' to Jesus' mother Mary, according to John 19.25, and this is most likely in the sense of being a relative, rather than a sibling. Her feast day is the 24th of April.
