Refused to enrol at the École des Beaux-Arts, and instead, worked at the Académie Suisse where he became acquainted with Camille Pissarro.^[J92]

Continued to study in Paris in 1862, becoming acquainted with Bazille, Sisley, and Renoir.^[J92]
Travelled and worked in London and the Netherlands, 1870, and then stayed in Argenteuil on his return.^[J92]
Settled in Giverny, 1883.^[J92]
He slowly achieved critical acclaim, and was to become one of the most significant and popular modern artists.^[J92]
