Biographical

An Afghan, Shuja'at Khan joined Sher Shah Suri (founder of the Sure Empire) at Kanpur in 1518. After Sher Shah's conquest of Malwa, he awarded him with the title of 'Shuja'at Khan'. He was granted in jagir the territories of Sarangpur and Raisen. In 1554 he became the de facto ruler of Malwa, and made Sarangour the seat of government. His son Baz Bahadur Shah became the last sultan of Malwa. His youngest son was Malik Mustafa who administered the territories of Raisen and Bhilsa.
