| Akanna (–1686) Positions Held Sar-lashkar (general), 1682 Biographical According to tradition, the son of 'Pengala Banooge Timayamah'. Whether the family was Maratha or Telegu Brahmins has been debated. He and his brother Madanna began their careers as bookkeepers in Hyderabad under Sayyid Muzffar, a central government figure who brought Sultan Abul-Hasan (Qutb Shahi dynasty) to the throne of Golconda. After Sayyid's arrest in 1674, Madanna replace him. The Sultan entrusted his kingdom to the brothers and they both became rich and powerful. They began replacing Muslims with Brahmins in administrative positions. By 1685, it appears that the Sultan had transferred everything to Madanna including the royal seal, in return for a monthly allowance. Mughal forces arrived in the city and the brothers fled to the fortress where they were murdered and their heads delivered to the Mughals. A massacre of a large number of Brahimns had also been carried out. Place of birth: Hanamkonda, Warangal Place of death, Golconda |
