In 610, Comentiolus was serving as the commander of the eastern army when Phocas was overthrown. Choosing not to acknowledge the authority of Emperor Heraclius, he led his forces to Ancyra to spend the winter of 610-611. During this period, he captured Philippicus, a messenger sent by Heraclius, and threatened to execute him along with several other notable figures. However, before he could follow through on these threats, Comentiolus was assassinated by Justinus.


Son of Domentiza and an unnamed father, he had issue by an unnamed woman.
