Zillah

Biographical

A 'stout' housemaid at Wuthering Heights who replaces Nelly when Heathcliff becomes master of the house. She informs Nelly of the events taking place at the house, including the death of Linton Heathcliff. Nelly believes Zillah dislikes Catherine Linton, and when she learns that Heathcliff forbids Zillah from assisting her on her arrival at the Heights, and Zillah acquiesces, Nelly calls her 'a narrow-minded, selfish woman'. Nelly replaces her at the Heights in 1802. Zillah dislikes what she sees, but tends to remain aloof in the midst of chaos, refusing to interfere.
