Manuel Ángel González
(–1881)

Biographical

A judge, Manuel Ángel was appointed as a member representing the Medinaceli district when the Diputación de Soria was established in 1841. However, his appointment was challenged by the majority of the institution due to incompatibility and was annulled, though he regained his position a month later. He served until 1842, during which time one notable matter discussed was the Ribacho estate, previously leased by Manuel Ángel’s father. In 1843, while serving as a judge in Almazán and a member of the National Militia, he delivered a powerful speech at a ceremony where the constitutional council of the town presented new uniforms and rifles to the Grenadiers of the National Militia. In this address, he firmly aligned himself with the royalists supporting Queen Isabel II and delivered a scathing critique of the Carlists.
