Leoncio González
de Gregorio
(1865–1936)
Biographical
Knight of the Real Maestranza of Zaragoza
Leoncio and his brother were pioneers in their agricultural practices
by incorporating modern machinery and adopting advanced farming methods.
Leoncio initiated plans to provide electricity to Quintana Redonda.
In 1923, he became president of the Unión Patriótica Soriana
and the Junta de Defensa de los Agricultores Contribuyentes de la Provincia,
positioning himself as a key figure in the agricultural movement in Soria.
Alongside his brother Aurelio and other prominent members, he helped lead
the movement, advocating strongly for the interests of local farmers.
His involvement highlights the significant overlap between the agricultural
movement and the political forces supporting the dictatorship, with the
two often blending to the point of becoming indistinguishable. Many of
the most influential leaders of the agricultural movement were also among
the regime’s most important and valued collaborators in Soria, reflecting
the tight-knit relationship between local agricultural interests and the
authoritarian state. Lencio and his son Pedro were murdered by the Checa
of the Marqués de Riscal in the Palace of the Counts of Casa Valencia.
Place of death: Madrid
