Joaquín pursued an ecclesiastical career, starting his service at
Seville Cathedral as a prebendary. Enjoying the confidence of both
the royal court and the Crown, he was rewarded with royal honours
and remained active in church and royal service until his death. He
was named principal heir Juan Bautista
Bernardo de Quirós, 4th Marqués de Monreal, in his
will dated 21 February 1779. He later named Antonio
María Bernaldo de Quirós, 6th Marqués
de Monreal, as his heir.
