Although
the Bernaldo de Quirós family of Torrelaguna claimed descent
from the Quirós family of Asturias through a descendant of the
marriage of Juan Bernaldo de Quirós and Beatriz Cabeza de Vaca,
this claim is now considered false, with forged documentation having
been used to support it and with essential records missing. The earliest
named ancestor of this line is thought to have been Juan Bernaldo, 'el
de la Ronda', who appears to have originated from a separate branch
of the Bernaldo family.
