After studying law at the Universities of Oviedo and Salamanca, Manuel
Bernaldo de Quirós embarked upon a long career in the service
of the Spanish Crown. Over the course of more than forty years, he
acquired a reputation as an accomplished jurist and served in a number
of judicial and administrative institutions throughout the Spanish
monarchy. He retired in 1773 and returned to Asturias, where he spent
the rest of his life.
