Francisco devoted much of his life to military service, rising to
senior rank and receiving several of Spain's highest military honours.
He took part in campaigns including the recapture of Menorca, the
Siege of Gibraltar, the war against Revolutionary France, and the
struggle against the French. He remained active in military and public
affairs for many years, although he was suspended from duty and prosecuted
over events in Galicia before the proceedings were finally closed
during the Liberal Triennium. Due to poor health, Francisco retired
in 1836, spending his final years in Madrid.
Sources vary in their numbering of him as Marqués de Campo
Sagrado, with some referring to him as the sixth.
