Biographical
Signore di Sclafani
Giovanni is said to have arrived in Sicily from Lombardy and to have
been in the service of William I, King of Sicily (r. 1154–66).
According
to the historian Filadelfo Mugnos, after saving the king’s life
during the conspiracy led by Matteo Bonello, Giovanni was rewarded
with the ancient castle of Megerio in Sclafani, along with its dependencies,
and the castle was renamed Sclafani.
