Biographical

A poet, Barton emigrated to Australia with her father in 1839. After marrying, she and her husband settled at Boree Nyang Station in New South Wales. She took up writing later in life, and amongst her published works, two are particularly notable: A Few of Grandmother's Prizes for the Little ones (1885), her only children's book, written in verse, and Straws on the Streama (1910), a volume of poems that are mostly religious in tone.
Her poems won a number of prizes and were published in periodicals. Barton continued writing until her death and was the grandmother of Banjo Paterson.
