Darvall
(1773–1869) Biographical Major, 9th Regiment of Dragoons Captain, 9th Regiment of Dragoons Darvall served under the future Duke of Wellington in southern India. His future stepmother-in-law opposed his marriage to Emily Johnson, so the couple fled to Scotland and eloped, with her two brothers in pursuit. After purchasing the chateau of Capecure near Boulogne, where they resided for a time, they left for New South Wales in 1839 in search of better prospects for the family, eventually settling at Ryedale. Darvall's land holdings encompassed broad stretches bordering the Parramatta River, focusing on fruit production. He owned Deniston Farm between 1840 and 1849 and then Ryedale Estate between 1855 and 1869.
