Varlet
(1636–1709) Other names: Sieur de Verneuil Biographical An actor and singer, Achille followed the example of his brother by embracing a theatrical career, beginning as a country actor. He then entered the troupe at the Marais Theatre in 1662 and remained there until 1673 before joining the Guénégaud Theatre. He achieved some success, and had also joined the King's troupe. From March to October 1675, Achille participated in performances of Circé by Charpentier, and eventually retired in 1684. He bought a house from Molière's widow in 1679, situated near Suresnes, Paris. Little is known of his wife, Marie Vallée, who was the daughter of a hatter and also an actress.
