5th Duque de Aveiro 1668–73†
3rd Duke de Torres Novas
1668–73†
Titular Archbishop of Side 1671–73†
Inquisitor General of the Kingdom of Portugal 1671–73†

President of the Royal Court of Appeals 1651
Although elected to the
offices of Archbishop of Évora and Braga and Bishop of Guarda,
Pedro never received papal confirmation because diplomatic relations
between Portugal and the Holy See had been suspended. As a result,
he was granted the titular see of Sida, as the bull establishing the
Holy Office stipulated that the Inquisitor General had to be a clergyman.
He remained in the service of the King in Portugal, while some of
his family members left for Spain.
Pedro took legal
action to recover his nephews’ confiscated estates and honours
and was eventually successful.
