Biographical
He managed the lands he inherited from his father, and later moved to
Monterrey where he founded an agricultural business which expanded greatly
in northeast Mexico. In his youth, he had joined the army to fight against
the French, and was present at the battle of
Ahualulco. He rose to the rank of colonel.
As governor of Coahuila, he helped with the construction of a number of
buildings including the penitentiary, the Acuña theatre, and the Hospital
Civil.[E15]
