Along with his brother, Ávila
was involved in the conspiracy, led by the sons of Hernán Cortés,
to overthrow Spanish royal authority in New Spain over the new encomienda
laws. He was arrested in 1566, his property confiscated, and after a trial,
his house (built over the ruins of Tenochtitlan, being land he inherited
from his uncle, the conquistador Alonso), were demolished. He was ordered
to put up a stone slab outlining his crimes, and was executed with his
brother.

A son of Gil González de Ávila and Leonor de Alvarado, he
married María de Sosa (†1601).
