A Spanish conquistador, Carvajal went to the Americas in 1509, taking
part in the conquest of Puerto Rico and Cuba. He then went to New Spain
with Julián de Alderete on Ruiz de la Mota's ship in 1521. As a
captain, he took part in the conquest of Tenochtitlán alongside
Hernan Cortés. A nephew, Antonio, was killed during the siege.
He later became an enemy of Cortés. Carvajal took part in the conquest
of southern areas of Mexico, and then returned to Spain, where he married
for a second time. He returned to Mexico and became a resident of Mexico
City, holding a number of posts there.

He married firstly

He had issue by both wives.
