Biographical
The eldest son of Emperor 'Alamgir, Muhammad Sultan died 30 years before his father in the fort of Gwalior where he had been confined by his father. Muhammad Sultan was imprisoned because of his alleged subversive role in the war of succession that had broke out between his father and his uncles. He had defected to the side of his uncle, Shah Shuja.
