Benjamin Guggenheim
(1865–1912)
Biographical
An industrialist, Benjamin attended the Columbia School of Mines before
dropping out to join the family business. He founded a company in Milwaukee
that produced mining machinery, but it struggled financially and came
close to bankruptcy before his death. He was also involved in mining.
After his mother’s death, he began spending long periods in Paris
and settled there permanently by 1911, leaving his wife and children behind.
He planned to return to New York for his daughter’s birthday in
1912 on a French vessel, but changed his booking to the Titanic due to
a workers' strike. Benjamin perished in the sinking, along with his valet
and chauffeur.

Son of Meyer Guggenheim and Barbara Meyers, he married Florette Seligman
in 1894, and had issue.
