Biographical
Lady in waiting to Elizabeth I, 1588[F76]
A claimant to the English throne.[F76]
Raised by her grandmother Bess of Hardwick.[F76]
Dismissed from her role as lady-in-waiting after being seen behaving in
a too friendly manner with the Earl of Essex.[F76]
Held in custody in 1610, after her marriage to William Seymour was discovered,
and he was sent to the Tower. They had previously been ordered by the
king not to see each other as both had a claim to the throne and an eventual
plot was feared.[F76]
She was later banished to Durham after her meetings with William at the
Tower were discovered, but escaped and was eventually caught and herself
imprisoned in the Tower.[F76]
