After completing studies at the military school of Modena in 1915, Filiberto
took part in the First World War with the Nizza cavalry regiment, and
was later awarded a bronze medal. In 1934, he commanded the Brenner division
of the Bolzano brigade, and in 1936, he was commanding a regiment in East
Africa which earned him a silver medal.
He was considered a candidate for the throne of Croatia, but ultimately,
his cousin, Aimone, Duke of Spoleto, was chosen.

Son of Principe Tommaso di Savoia-Genova and Princess Isabella of Bavaria
