Archimandrite of Kalenićka
Biographical
Samuilo fought in the First Serbian Uprising of 1804 and afterwards he moved to Srem. After some time, he returned to Serbia to the Kalenićka monastery. In 1820, he was sent to Constantinople by Prince Milos Obrenović I as part of a Serbian delegation. The Turkish vizier had asked that Prince Milos include some family members in the group, so he chose Samuilo under the pretence that he was a close relative. In Constantinople, after the Greek uprising of 1821, members of the deputation were put through harsh, perilous periods, including imprisonment. Samuel soon fell sick and died. He is said to have been the son of Jakov Obrenović.
