Biographical
Claimed the earldom of Angus which she abandoned in 1565, but resurrected
this in 1576 for her granddaughter Arabella which was unsuccessful.[F76]
Imprisoned in the Tower and later at the abbey of Sion for her secret
engagement to Thomas Howard, but released in 1537.[F76]
Became enamoured of Charles Howard, and Henry VIII incarcerated her again
at Sion, and then at Kenninghall, in Norfolk, and later released.[F76]
Quarrelled with Henry VIII before his death over her adherence to the
Roman Catholic faith and he excluded her from the succession.[F76]
Was on very favourable terms with Mary I and was granted an income and
apartments at Westminster Palace.[F76]
Sent to the Tower, 1565-67, after marrying her son to Mary, Queen of Scots.[F76]
Elizabeth I allowed to live at Sheen with her family.[F76]
Sent to the Tower again in 1574 for marrying her son to Elizabeth Cavendish,
and released the same year.[F76]
Went to live at Stepney.[F76]
