He transferred to the Royal Guards Corps in the Spanish company in 1782. Due to his marriage to María del Carmen López de Zúñiga in 1790, Pedro became Conde de Miranda, duque consorte of Peñaranda, a Grandee of Spain, and the holder of various other titles by right of his wife. In 1793, he served in the war against France. Pedro opposed the king's favourite, Manuel Godoy, and was thus removed from the court until 1808. He continued his military service and received various appointments and honours. In 1820, as his final appointment, he was made administrator to King Ferdinand VII, responsible for receiving allocations from the National Treasury and handling financial affairs on the king’s behalf. After the constitutional reform of 1820, he was exiled from the court, but he was reappointed mayordomo mayor in 1823 and remained in that position until his death.
