1st Marquesa de Melgar de Fernamental (–1707) Biographical 1st Marquesa de Melgar de Fernamental 1676 Señora de la villa de Fernamental As the daughter of the Viceroy of New Spain, Antonio de Toledo, María Luisa spent part of her childhood in Mexico City, returning to Spain in 1674. Queen Mariana of Austria granted her the title of Marquesa de Melgar de Fernamental as part of her dowry upon her marriage. She could not inherit her father’s position due to the family’s mayorazgo, which excluded women. After she was widowed, she became a nun at the Convent of Our Lady of Constantinople in Madrid as Sor María Luisa de la Santísima Trinidad in 1706. She drew up her will on 19 September 1707.
