Rudolf was an Austro-Hungarian diplomat and Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
He studied law at the University of Vienna, where he became involved in
student politics. After graduating from university, he entered the diplomatic
service in 1833. His first assignment was as an attaché to the
Austrian embassy in Paris. He served in various other diplomatic posts,
including those in Madrid, Berlin, and Rome. He served as ambassador to
the United Kingdom during a period of great political turmoil in Europe,
including the Second Schleswig War and the Franco-Prussian War. Rudolf
played a key role in maintaining good relations between Austria-Hungary
and the United Kingdom during this time. He was also a patron of the arts
and sciences. He was a friend of many leading writers, artists, and musicians
of his time, and he helped to promote their work in Austria-Hungary. Rudolf
was also a collector of art and books, leaving behind a valuable collection
of paintings, sculptures, and manuscripts. He is remembered as a distinguished
diplomat who helped shape Austrian-Hungarian foreign policy during a critical
period in the country's history.
