Good Night Albumen cabinet card, 14.9 × 10.3 cm, by Joshua Smith, c. 1880 Art Institute of Chicago |

| A Victorian-era novelty photograph, this composite portrait features around 40 crying babies, playing on the theme of bedtime fussiness. It serves as a companion piece to another work titled Good Morning. An early example of the photomontage technique, it combines individual baby portraits into a single composition. Smith’s photomontages were regarded as significant works of their time. |
