Part of a fresco cycle covering the walls and ceiling of a private audience and reception chamber, commissioned by the Marquis of Mantua as a statement of dynastic pride, learning, and authority, presenting the ruling family as cultured, legitimate, and closely aligned with classical ideals and divine favour.
