The Squirrel Catchers Oil on canvas, 104.5 by 65.5cm, by Bruno Liljefors, 1883 Location unknown |
||||||||||
| An early work by Liljefors shows two mischievous schoolboys chasing a terrified squirrel, their books and hat flung aside in comic disarray. Though the scene appears spontaneous, it was carefully staged using a photograph, allowing him to capture the moment with studied accuracy. This blend of playful subject and careful preparation reflects both his deep knowledge of nature and the formal compositional training he received in Stockholm and Düsseldorf during the early 1880s. |
