| Jean-Baptiste-Adolphe Lafosse (1810?–1879) | ||||||||||
| Lafosse, a painter, lithographer, and draughtsman, was born in Paris and studied under the French Romantic painter Paul Delaroche. Known for his genre scenes, historical compositions, and especially portraiture, he exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1833 to 1875 and produced numerous lithographs, both from his own designs and after other artists. He is particularly noted for his lithographic work, creating 184 plates for Victor Frond’s Panthéon des illustrations françaises du XIXe siècle, a monumental series published between 1869 and 1873. Lafosse was the father of two artists, Cécile-Berthe Lafosse and Jules-Georges Lafosse, and his pupil, Jules Worms, later taught his daughter Cécile-Berthe. Lafosse died in Paris. | ||||||||||
