| Sigismond Himely (1801–1872) | ||||||||||
| Himely, a painter, draughtsman, and engraver from La Neuveville, Switzerland, was born into an artistic family and became known for his watercolour and aquatint landscapes. Trained by Couleru in La Neuveville and Friedrich Wilhelm Moritz in Neuchâtel, he moved to Paris in 1822, where he studied aquatint under Jean-Frédéric d'Ostervald and collaborated with him on various publications. Later, he studied engraving with Thales Fielding. Settling in Paris, he became a French national and gained recognition for his engravings of Swiss panoramas and views, displaying considerable skill, as well as works inspired by contemporary masters. In his later years, Himely focused on lithography and chromolithography, exhibiting regularly at the Salon from 1824 to 1870. He died in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Paris. | ||||||||||
