| Thomas Hazlehurst (c. 1740–c. 1821) | ||||||||||
| A painter of unknown origins, Hazlehurst studied under Sir Joshua Reynolds and exhibited at the Society for Promoting Painting and Design in Liverpool from 1787 to 1818. He worked in Liverpool from 1760 to 1818 and also showed works at the Liverpool Academy between 1810 and 1812. He is renowned for his finely detailed miniature portrait watercolours on ivory, often portraying genteel subjects of the Georgian era, which are highly finished and skillful, frequently signed 'T.H.' in neat Roman capitals. His works also include botanical studies of Lancashire flora, now held in the City of Liverpool Library. Despite high earnings, Hazlehurst died in poverty due to poor investments, possibly at his home in Liverpool. | ||||||||||
